Mango Wood Oval Serving Tray

A mango wood oval serving tray in solid mango wood, made the way furniture was made before it was flat-packed. Conferina mango wood with rattan inlay oval tray. Finished in honey, with the grain left where you can see it. Mango wood is close-grained and warm in colour, a plantation hardwood that takes a finish evenly. Boards are picked for grain and strength, then planed, cut and fitted by hand. The timber is seasoned before a single cut is made, so the piece stays true through Indian summers and monsoons. Joints are mortise and tenon, cut and fitted dry before anything is glued. The finish is built up in thin layers so the grain stays visible rather than buried under paint. It measures 16 x 10 x 2 in (41 x 25 x 5 cm) and weighs about 1.6 kg.
