Finished in natural teak, with the grain left where you can see it. Teak carries its own oils, which is why it takes heat, damp and years of use better than anything else we work with. The frame is squared and checked before the finish goes on, and again after. The timber is seasoned before a single cut is made, so the piece stays true through Indian summers and monsoons. Joints are mortise and tenon, cut and fitted dry before anything is glued. The finish is built up in thin layers so the grain stays visible rather than buried under paint. It measures 10 x 2 x 1 in (25 x 5 x 3 cm) and weighs about 0.3 kg.
