The frame is squared and checked before the finish goes on, and again after. Every surface is sanded through the grades until it is smooth to the hand, not just to the eye. Joints are mortise and tenon, cut and fitted dry before anything is glued. The finish is built up in thin layers so the grain stays visible rather than buried under paint. It measures 22 x 24 x 40 in (56 x 61 x 102 cm) and weighs about 42.6 kg.
