Mango Wood Hand-Carved Serving/Fruit Bowl

A mango wood hand-carved serving/fruit bowl in solid mango wood, made one at a time rather than run off a line. Hand-carved single-piece mango tree wood serving/fruit bowl by Thai artisan, dark protective stain highlighting natural wood grain, tropical chic styling. Finished in dark stained finish highlighting wood grain, with the grain left where you can see it. Mango wood is close-grained and warm in colour, a plantation hardwood that takes a finish evenly. The timber is seasoned before a single cut is made, so the piece stays true through Indian summers and monsoons. Joints are mortise and tenon, cut and fitted dry before anything is glued. Boards are picked for grain and strength, then planed, cut and fitted by hand. The finish is built up in thin layers so the grain stays visible rather than buried under paint. It measures 14 x 8 x 2 in (36 x 20 x 5 cm) and weighs about 1.4 kg.
