Acacia is hard-wearing, with a grain that runs pale gold to deep brown across a single board. Every surface is sanded through the grades until it is smooth to the hand, not just to the eye. Joints are mortise and tenon, cut and fitted dry before anything is glued. Boards are picked for grain and strength, then planed, cut and fitted by hand. The finish is built up in thin layers so the grain stays visible rather than buried under paint. It measures 10 x 10 x 14 in (25 x 25 x 36 cm) and weighs about 2.5 kg.
